Cybersecurity risk categories

To understand the scope of cybersecurity risks, it’s important to categorize them into key areas:
External threats: These come from outside an organization and include attacks such as hacking, malware, and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.
Internal threats: These threats come from within an organization and often involve employees, contractors, or other trusted individuals who abuse their access privileges, misuse accounts and devices, or inadvertently introduce vulnerabilities. Regulatory and compliance risks: Failure to comply with industry regulations or privacy laws can result in severe penalties and reputational damage. Third party risks: Organizations often rely on third-party vendors, leaving them vulnerable to security breaches in the supply chain. Emerging risks: Rapid advances in technology introduce new risks, such as Internet of Things (IoT) vulnerabilities and artificial intelligence (AI) security concerns.
